History
Cody was born in Jamestown, ND in 1977.
His earliest artistic impressions originated from a strong interest in chimeric mythology and fantasy novels living in Naples, Italy. His classical introduction to oil painting occurred through his mother at the time, who studied with a Neapolitan painter.
In 1998 and some years following, entheogenic experiences alongside shamanic apprenticeship gave birth to a powerful investment into art making as a fine spiritual and psychological practice.
Cody is a cosmopolitan artist, having grown up living throughout six U.S. States and Europe, then in adulthood living and traveling in Thailand and Cambodia.
He graduated with a BA in Studio Art from Wichita State University. Afterward he served as an adjunct professor at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center and Frederick Community College in Frederick, MD. Cody is currently on retreat in Wichita, KS while working on the completion of his M.F.A. in Painting through the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA.

Statement:
I pursue the archaic or "shamanic" methods of art making. My paintings literally reflect the meta-pathologies and archetypes that ghost through dimensions, like mirrors of context and consciousness. Shamanic painting bridges the immediacy of abstract expressionism with the refined development of classical rendering. Each artwork becomes a record-artifact of psychedellic invocation and exorcism.
Shamanic painting converts the deafening static of abstract reality into applicable visual information; this is it's great value. It is a method to express the forces that compose us and that impose upon us, and from there we can make choices about how to live with greater awareness. Continually refined perception, holistic expression, and idealism define my practice.
