John Maxwell

A friend of Cody Seekins from the Wichita community; John Maxwell is a writer and veteran of the Peace Corps .  His travels through Southeast Asia and India during that career provide a cultural and spiritual nexus between himself and Seekins’ works.  Maxwell is also a long time resident of Wichita, Kansas and a patron of the historic riverside coffee house.  Over many seasons and changing ownership, Maxwell has brought his presence, community, and political wit to this cultural hub in the heart of the city.  It is Maxwell’s venerable relationship to this particular building in Riverside which inspired Seekins to paint his portrait.

Maxwell loves authenticity and skillful application in works of art. As a patron he is sensitive to the humanity, intimacy, and vulnerability often inherent to such works.  Maxwell has been witness to a very long span of Seekins’ development as an artist; periods which include Seekins’ undergrad and grad education.  Concurrently Seekins has enjoyed his generous friendship and thoughtful perspective.
